Kansas City Area
Missouri High School
$200,000 underwriting sponsor secured before installation.
A small Missouri high school on the outskirts of the Kansas City area wanted to replace its existing scoreboard with a modern video display, but available funds fell short of the school's long-term vision. With the next bond issue still years away, administrators began exploring alternative ways to move the project forward.
Working with a MoKan certified funding strategist, they evaluated how local sponsorships could be used to support the project. The approach focused on securing a primary underwriting partner before expanding to additional community sponsors. The effort ultimately led to the installation of a large Watchfire video scoreboard paired with a stadium-quality sound system — a new focal point for the school's athletic facilities and a long-term asset for the community. The scoreboard continues generating $10,000 in annual revenue.
Kansas
Small College
$50,000 underwriting sponsorship secured — without giving up naming rights.
A Kansas college reached out for scoreboard bids. During the initial meeting, the athletic staff mentioned that a major sponsor had expressed interest in funding the project. A MoKan certified funding strategist was brought in to help structure the conversation.
After reviewing design options and pricing tiers, the sponsor proposed purchasing the scoreboard in exchange for stadium-wide naming rights. Working with the administration, the funding strategist narrowed the agreement to scoreboard sponsorship only and recommended limiting the term — preserving the school's ability to pursue additional revenue opportunities down the road. The project moved forward with a new Watchfire scoreboard. The college secured a meaningful facility upgrade, a satisfied community partner, and kept full control over future sponsorship assets.
North-Central Missouri
School District
$60,000 in annual sponsorship revenue. $300,000 total over the life of the agreement.
A school district administrator who had previously worked with a MoKan certified funding strategist at another school reached out for help securing a new video scoreboard. The district had a vision but didn't know where to start.
Working with the administration, the funding strategist recognized that the athletic director — new to the role and the community — was not yet comfortable leading sponsor conversations. The approach was adjusted to better support the new AD while leveraging the strength of the community. The result was the installation of two Watchfire video scoreboards, creating renewed pride and excitement and drawing attention from neighboring schools. The scoreboards generate an additional $14,000 in annual revenue.
